COVID-19 Bulletin (03/08/21) – D Magazine

Friday and Saturday saw 830 new COVID-19 cases and 51 deaths, Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins reported. Cases continue to go down, but last week was the fifth deadliest week of the pandemic.


A group of 200 Jewish conservatives are planning to meet at in Collin County and burn their masks to celebrate the lifting of the mask mandate, while also holding a moment of silence for the more than 500,000 lives lost during the pandemic. Experts say masks help prevent the spread of the disease. Read more from the Dallas Morning News.


More than six million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been distributed across Texas, and there has been 2.6 million cases and 45,000 deaths. KERA has more on the pandemic so far.


Governor Greg Abbott has denied aid from the federal government to test migrants before they are released from the border this week, saying it is the federal government’s responsibility to test the migrants. Learn more with the Texas Tribune.
